While studying to become a Women's Coaching Specialist, I was advised to read "ROAR" by Stacy T. Sims, PhD. I strongly recommend this book to all women in their productive years, particularly female athletes or those involved in sports or fitness. The author draws on her own experiences and expertise as an athlete to explain essential concepts that all active women should understand, including period cycle breakdown, physical assessment, preparation, nutrition planning, and workout strategies for women athletes.
This book helped me professionally and personally in my fitness endeavors. Now that I am in my 40s, it is becoming increasingly challenging to tackle daily tasks, find motivation for the workout, and maintain consistency. Knowing and understanding how women's bodies differ and what the ups and downs of our authentic physiques are in sport can also help debunk some fears we might have. We face several changes in our lives, on a daily basis, and life's cornerstones, fertility, pre- and postpartum, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause. We live in the 21st century, and nowadays, it is thanks to women's scientific approach, study, experience, applying the findings, and sharing their expertise.
